What is Dynamic Coefficient of Friction (DCOF) and what does it mean for the safety of your facility?

Do you conform to the new ANSI 137.1 DCOF Standards for Tile?

In late 2012, The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), in coordination with the Tile Council of North America (TCNA), published its first Dynamic Coefficient of Friction (DCOF) standard for tile.

The first of in the industry to set:

  • A method of testing – The BOT 3000 by Regan Scientific Instruments
  • A measure – >.42 Dynamic Coefficient of Friction (DCOF)
  • Rules of the road to maintain optimal friction and enhance where needed

The new standard goes a step further;

Section states:

“Specifier shall determine tiles appropriate for specific project conditions, considering by way of example, but not in limitation, type of use, traffic, expected contaminants, expected maintenance, expected wear, and manufacturers’ guidelines and recommendations.”

“…the COF of installed tiles can change over time as a result of wear and surface contaminants. Surfaces should be cleaned regularly and deep cleaned periodically. Traction-enhancing maintenance may be needed periodically to maintain DCOF values.”

The Surface Solutions IDEA Program

Let us test your surfaces and develop a Total Surface Solution IDEA for you:

dentify at risk surfaces.

D evelop a program to enhance DCOF, where needed.

E xecute an installation solution though one of our factory trained teams.

A udit & report final friction for you insurance or risk management use.

Our DCOF audit programs utilize the latest equipment & industry standards.
